Camp Attakapas The Council's second camping facility is located in Trout, LA near Jena (LaSalle Parish) and is approximately 35 miles from Alexandria. The Louisiana Purchase Council currently leases this property from Resource Management Services, which is largest privately held forest management and consulting firm in the United States, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. The camp consists of 33.3 acres and has a 15 acre lake available for boating activities and fishing. Searcy Lake has a dock and is ideal for aquatics activities. Wildlife is routinely seen at Camp Attakapas and the fishing is great on Searcy Lake. Facilities include a large dining hall with a capacity of 200, a beautiful chapel for Vespers services, recently enhanced shooting sports ranges, the Steve Ayers training center, a trading post and warehouse facility, shower/bath houses in the campsites and the Adirondacks for overnight camping. As with Camp T.L. James, all of the areas of camp are available for use by the public, although there are fees for non-Scouting groups.
