The Council's second camping facility is located in Trout, LA near Jena (LaSalle Parish) and is approximately 35 miles from Alexandria. The Louisiana Purchase Council currently owns 65.5 of the camp and leases the remaining property from Resource Management Services. The Council plans to buy the remaining leased acreage over the next two years.
The camp has a 15 acre lake available for boating activities and fishing. Searcy Lake has a dock and is ideal for aquatics activities.
Wildlife is routinely seen at Camp Attakapas and the fishing is great on Searcy Lake.
Facilities include a large dining hall with a capacity of 200, a beautiful chapel for Vespers services, recently enhanced shooting sports ranges, the Steve Ayers training center, a trading post and warehouse facility, shower/bath houses in the campsites and the Adirondacks for overnight camping.
As with Camp T.L. James, all of the areas of camp are available for use by the public, although there are fees for non-Scouting groups. Reservation details are available online or by calling (318) 325-4634.
